Yunnanese food doesn’t have the international fame of Cantonese or Beijing cuisine, but it is well worth a try. The region’s diverse ethnic groups add a variety of flavors to the communal pot, as does its proximity to Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar.
For a cross section taste of Yunnan food, go for the fried goat cheese, shredded potato pancake, barbecue skewers, and pork with sauerkraut. There’s a surprisingly diverse beer list, ranging from Trappist brews to fruit varieties. The restaurant has several dining spaces and features unpretentious black tables and slate floors.
It can be tricky to find: Head through Ju’Roshine Life Arts Space to the very back, past an antique store and a nail salon.
