Shanghai’s smallest gallery lies a short way down the famously artsy Huaihai Fang lane off busy Middle Huaihai Road. Measuring 34 by 38 meters (370 by 410 ft.), it’s more intimate than the cavernous warehouse galleries of M50 [2] on Moganshan Road or the airy villa conversions of the leafier parts of town.
FQ has just enough space for a selection of small-scale artwork by young contemporary artists covering sculpture, painting, installation, video, and photography. The emphasis is on artists who break away from the mainstream and attempt something new.
Exhibitions rotate every month or so and the 12-square-meter (130 sq. ft.) courtyard is used for shows in summer.
