There are many Spanish schools in Lima [1], though getting away from all the English speakers is a challenge. San Isidro language schools include Instituto de Idiomas (Camino Real 1037, tel. 01/442-8761, www.pucp.edu.pe [2], 11 a.m.–1 p.m. daily), which charges US$105 for 36 hours of lessons.
Asociación Cultural Peruano-Británico (Arequipa 3495, tel. 01/221-7550, www.britanico.edu.pe [3]) charges US$66 for 36 hours of lessons.
In Miraflores, Instituto Cultural Peruano-Norteamericano (Angamos Oeste 160, Miraflores, tel. 01/241-1940, www.icpna.edu.pe [4]) charges US$54 for 40 hours of lessons plus US$82 in materials.
For a well-rounded Spanish school, try El Sol (Grimaldo de Solar 469, Miraflores, tel. 01/242-7763, www.idiomasperu.com [5]), which has a Survival Spanish program for travelers that includes cooking and dancing classes, city walks, volunteer opportunities, conversation partners, and family homestays. El Sol charges US$15 per hour for small group lessons or US$110 for 10 hours of semi-intensive classes. The one-week program for beginners is US$50.
For one-on-one lessons, some recommended private tutors are Lourdes Galvez (tel. 01/435-3910, US$5/hour), Llorgelina Savastaizagal (tel. 01/275-6460, US$5/hour), and Alex Boris (tel. 01/423-0697, US$5/hour).
