The best restaurant in Andahuaylas [1] is Pico Rico (corner of Constitución and Andahauylas, 5 p.m.–midnight daily, US$2.50), which serves one thing and does it well: pollo a la brasa, with soup, french fries, and salad.
A recommended chifa is Chun Yion (corner of Antonio Trelles and Constitución, 3–11 p.m. daily).
Pizzería Napolitana (Ramón Castilla 431, tel. 083/42-2196, 7 a.m.–1 p.m. and 3:30–9 p.m. daily) serves decent pizzas and juices, and is one of the few places in town that sells ice cream.
Another locals’ favorite for comida típica is Club Social (Juan Antonio Trelles 251, 7 a.m.–10 p.m. daily, US$2). House specialties are huge dishes of caldo de gallina and adobo stewed in corn chicha—best washed down with a shot of anisado.
Basic cafés for breakfast, bread, desserts, or coffee are El Pan Nuestro (Ramón Castillo 599, tel. 083/42-1644, 6 a.m.–10 p.m. daily) and Las Delicias (Ramón Castillo 468).
