Catholic priest Ugo de Censi began this nonprofit organization (Catholic Parish in Jangus, tel. 043/44-5061, andesdbosco [at] hotmail [dot] com, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Mon.–Fri.) in 1970 as a way to give people working skills and an escape from poverty. The organization has blossomed from its roots in Chacas, a small town on the other side of the Cordillera Blanca [1], into a large workshop in Jangus, just north of Huaraz [2].
Here, teenagers learn how to make contemporary furniture, ceramics, blown glass, weavings, and stone sculptures, which are then shipped throughout the world! Visitors tour through all the workshops and have a chance to see an interesting video.
The organization also has offices in Lima [3] (Av. Alejandro Tirado 158, Sta. Beatriz, tel. 01/471-0515) and Cusco [4] (Primavera, 100 S. Jerónimo, tel. 084/27-7316).
