The sleek and modern Ozone Disco and Bali Lounge (Av. Ortiz 490, tel. 074/23-5932, 7:30 p.m.–2 a.m. Thurs.–Sat.) are Chiclayo [1] hot spots. The disco has three different atmospheres, which vary in price and VIP status. And the Bali Lounge is a narrow bar surrounded by sofa benches and is best for conversation, cocktails, and a piqueo.
Spanning nearly an entire block near the bus stations, Premium (Balta 94–98, tel. 074/20-4833, 7 p.m.–4 a.m. Mon.–Sat., 7 p.m.–close Sun., US$4–11) is part classic pub, part flashy karaoke stage, and part bright, modern café.
On the outskirts of town is Real Plaza (Bolognese block 12, 11 a.m.–11 p.m. daily), a new shopping mall, and local favorite, that promises a mellow evening of creamy gelato from D’Lara (US$1–2) and a movie at Cine Planet (3 p.m.–midnight daily, US$1.25–2.50).
Monsefú [2], a town known for embroidered cotton and woven straw goods, is also famous for the procession of El Señor Nazareno Cautivo in Monsefú. According to legend, this effigy of Christ floated ashore one day and is chained inside the church because it has escaped before to perform miracles in other towns. The festival begins August 31 and involves fireworks, dances, and music, until the final and biggest party day September 14.
Other important festivals include the Purísima Concepción in Túcume [3] in February and the Señor de la Justicia on April 25 in Ferreñafe.
