If in case of a planet catastrophe we would have the choice to choose from one country to save and rebuild the planet from, undoubtedly I would choose Peru.
— English scientist David Bellamy
Peru [1] is located in the heart of the richest and most diverse region in the world. Eleven eco-regions with a unique combination of climate and geography contain a sixth of all plant life in only 1 percent of the planet’s land area. The country has 84 of the 114 Holdridge life zones. Few countries can rival Peru’s biodiversity, which holds world records for highest diversity of birds (more than 1,800 species), butterflies (more than 3,500), and orchids (3,500). There are at least 6,300 species of endemic plants and animals, along with an estimated 30 million insects.
