Five miles (8 km) north of Bucerías [1], a pair of ocean-side palapa restaurants mark Playa Destiladeras, a beach-lover’s heavenly mile of white sand. Two-to-five-foot waves roll in gently, providing good conditions for bodysurfing and boogie boarding. Surfing gets better the closer you get to the end of the headland at Punta el Burro (known also as Punta Veneros), where good left-breaking waves make it popular with local surfers.
The intriguing label destiladeras originates with the fresh water dripping from the cliffs past Punta el Burro, collecting in freshwater pools right beside the ocean. Campers who happen upon one of these pools may find their water problems solved.
