In the town of Emiliano Zapata, on the bluff above Playa Anclote [1], you have several choices. Most comfortable is Casa Las Palmas (Calle Francisco Madero, Emiliano Zapata, tel. 329/291-6304, www.casalaspalmas.net [2]), tucked on a quiet side street. Owner/builders David and Irene Forbes offer about ten spacious apartments in two sections, one built around an inviting inner garden on one side of the street and an inviting pool patio on the other. Inside, the immaculate, commodious one-bedroom ($50 d low season, $70 d high) and two-bedroom ($70 d low season, $90 d high) apartments are finished in pleasingly rustic brick and stucco, with soft chairs, gleaming bathrooms, and soft beds. Discounts are available for long-term rentals. Guests are welcome to use their beautiful blue pool and hot tub across the street.
If you must stay on the beach, you can do it, at luscious Playa Anclote’s first (and only) beachfront hotel, the Hotel Mesón de Mita (Av. Anclote, Corral de Riscos Nuevo, tel. 329/291-6330, mesondemita [at] yahoo [dot] com [dot] mx). Owners offer eight spacious, comfortably furnished rooms for $65 d low season, $80 d high, with shiny baths and air-conditioning. Some have ocean views, all overlooking the hotel’s beachfront restaurant and pool patio.
