Seven miles (11 km) along Highway 200, north of Guayabitos [1], a signed, cobbled side road leads through Lima de Abajo village about 2.5 miles (4 km) to the gorgeous golden beach of El Naranjo (The Orange Tree). A palm grove provides ample space and shade for RV parking and tenting, a spreading mangrove lagoon beyond the grove nurtures a host of wildlife, including a few crocodiles that bask in the sun at the lagoon’s edge. Bugs come out in late afternoon and evening. Campers: be prepared with insect repellent.
The beach itself is gloriously flat and kid-friendly. About a hundred yards out in the water, rolling billows, good for beginning and intermediate surfing, break gracefully. A platoon of pelicans and frigate birds soar and dive above the waves, while on the beach, little crabs skitter along the sand, pursued by squads of nimble shore birds.
There are no facilities at this beach.
