As one of Mexico’s colonial shining stars, Mérida is the region’s cultural supernova. With free nightly performances, four theaters, four cinemas, art galleries, a planetarium, and a bullring, there is absolutely something for everyone.

- Plaza Independencia: handicrafts market and outdoor food stands (10 a.m.–6 p.m.)
- Palacio Municipal: regional dance performances (1 and 3 p.m.)
- Parque Santa Lucía: antiques bazaar (mornings) and live regional music (11 a.m.)
- Parque Hidalgo: comedy acts and live marimba music (11:30 a.m.)
- Bici-Ruta: five kilometers (three miles) of streets in the historical center are open to bicyclists and pedestrians only (8 a.m.–12:30 p.m.). Bicycles can be rented in front of the Palacio Municipal (US$1–2 per hour).

- Paseo de Montejo at Calle 47: Noche Mexicana — food stalls, handicrafts booths, live music, and dance performances (8 p.m.– midnight
- Calle 60 (between Plaza Independencia and Calle 53): En El Corazón de Mérida — the street closes for live bands, dancing, and outdoor eating (9 p.m.–2 a.m.)
