Cines Hollywood Rex (Calle 57 between Calles 70 and 72, tel. 999/928-5980, US$2) shows U.S. and Mexican films on its two screens.
For a megaplex, head to either of the two shopping malls: Gran Plaza houses Hollywood Cinema (tel. 999/942-1429, US$3 before 3 p.m., US$4.25 before 6 p.m., US$4.75 after 6 p.m., US$2.75 Wednesday) and Hollywood Cinema Platinum VIP (same tel., US$7.50, US$4.25 Wednesday), with its comfy seats, extensive menu, and waiters.
A little closer to the center of town, Plaza América has the popular Cinepolis (tel. 999/987-6003, US$3 before 3 p.m., US$4.25 before 6 p.m., US$4.75 after 6 p.m., US$2.75 Wednesday) inside its doors.
Just up the street from the Plaza de la Independencia, Teatro Mérida (Calle 62 between Calles 59 and 61, tel. 999/924-9990, 10 a.m.–9 p.m. Tues.–Sun.) occasionally shows alternative art films and hosts international film festivals.
