Every evening a sound and light show is presented at Uxmal [1] overlooking the awe-inspiring Nunnery Quadrangle [2]. Different structures are lit up as an accompaniment to the Maya lore that is played over loudspeakers and headsets.
The narration is a little corny and sometimes unintelligible but if you’ve never seen one of these shows, it’s worth checking out.
Simply being at the archaeological site at night with the ancient stone structures looming around you and the occasional flash of lightning in the distance, is undeniably impressive. You can’t help but cast your mind back to ancient times, to imagine living in this mysterious city on a warm dark night gazing at the stars, the same ones we see today.
