Facing the park, and occupying a restored colonial-era home, Centro Cultural Casa No. 6 (Calle 57 between Calles 8 and 10, tel. 981/816-1782, 9 a.m.–9 p.m. daily, free) hosts various cultural events in its sunny courtyard, including trova concerts and art exhibitions. Even if nothing’s going on, you can pop in to visit the center’s artsy gift shop and bookstore, and grab a sandwich and coffee at the small café (US$1–4). The information desk at the entrance is usually friendly, but be alert for the occasional pushy tour vendor.
The Instituto de Cultura de Campeche (Campeche Culture Institute, Calle 12 between Calles 59 and 61) also organizes numerous arts and cultural events throughout the year; check out the bulletin boards at the entrance or go around the corner to its small administrative offices (Calle 61 between Calles 12 and 14, tel. 981/811-3636, www.institutodecultura.gob.mx [1], 9 a.m.–9 p.m. Mon.–Fri.) for additional information.
