This homage to the founding father of Belize is an impressive and modern air-conditioned museum, library, and center for conflict resolution and peace. The George Price Centre for Peace and Development (Price Centre Rd., tel. 501/822-1054, www.gpcbelize.com [1], 8 a.m.–6 p.m. Mon.–Fri., closed Sat., 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. Sun., free) is just off the eastern part of the Loop Road, near the Catholic church.
Set aside at least 30 minutes to tour the display, watch some historical videos, and admire the original flag that flew at Belize’s independence ceremony in 1981. The website features a list of events and some fascinating information on George Price’s legacy and Belizean history.
Born in 1919, at press time Mr. Price was alive and kickin’ at the age of 92. He lives in Belize City.
