Punta Gorda [1]’s town park, on a small triangle of soil roughly in the center of town, has an appropriately sleepy air to it. At the north end is a raised stage dedicated to the “Pioneers of Belizean Independence.” In the center of the park is a dry fountain, along with a few green cement benches. A clock tower on the south end of the park has hands everlastingly stuck as if holding time at bay.
On market days [2], this is an especially pleasant spot to take a break, enjoy the blue sky, and watch the activities of the villagers who have come in to sell their produce.
