It’s possible to camp in Parque Nacional Marino Isla Bastimentos [1] for US$5 per tent in addition to the US$10 per-person park entrance fee. Entrance fees for both can be paid at the ANAM office in Bocas town.
This entitles you to pitch a tent anywhere in the park. That includes the forest on Bastimentos itself, but as always it’s not a great idea to camp in a tropical forest without a qualified guide.
Most campers prefer to stay on one of the Cayos Zapatillas, which are part of the park, for a romantic, deserted-island experience.
It’s theoretically possible to buy permits directly from the ranger stationed on the Zapatillas. However, check at the ANAM office in Bocas town about current camping conditions and restrictions before venturing out that far. You’ll also need to hire a boatman you can trust to come pick you up when you’re ready to return.
