About half a mile farther west along the main road through Mazunte [1] village is a cosmetics factory and store. Initially funded partly by the Body Shop Foundation and spearheaded by the local community, local workers manufacture and sell all-natural shampoo, skin cream, hair conditioner, and more.
The staff is working hard to assure that the effort catches on, so that locally grown products such as coconut, corn, and avocado oils and natural aromatics will form the basis for a thriving cottage cosmetics industry.
