A New York stage actress wanted a classic steakhouse in San Francisco [1], and so Harris’ (2100 Van Ness Ave., 415/673-1888, www.harrisrestaurant.com [2], Mon.–Thurs. 5:30–9:30 p.m., Fri. 5:30–10:30 p.m., Sat.–Sun. 5–10 p.m., $25–40) came to be. The fare runs to traditional steaks and prime rib, with a bit of upscale with a Kobe rib-eye steak and a surf-and-turf featuring a whole Maine lobster. Music lovers can catch live jazz in the lounge on weekends.
