Sushi restaurants are immensely popular in the residential neighborhoods of Golden Gate Park and the Haight [1]. Koo (408 Irving St., 415/731-7077, www.sushikoo.com [2], Tues.–Thurs. 5:30–10:30 p.m., Fri.–Sat. 5:30–11 p.m., Sun. 5–10 p.m., $30–50) is a favorite in the Sunset. While sushi purists are happy with the selection of nigiri and sashimi, lovers of fusion and experimentation love the small plates and unusual rolls the chef/owner creates to delight his diners.
Complementing the Japanese cuisine is a small but scrumptious list of premium sakes. Only the cheap stuff is served hot, as high-quality sake is always chilled.
