Once a plain-Jane fishing town, Tiburon now supports some of the most expensive waterfront real estate in the world. The small downtown area that backs onto the marina is popular with the young and affluent crowd as well as the longtime yacht owners.
The affluent town of Sausalito
wraps around the north end of the San Francisco Bay. The main drag runs along the shore, and the concrete boardwalk is perfect for strolling and biking. A former industrial fishing town, Sausalito still has a few old cannery buildings and plenty of docks, most now lined with pleasure boats.Sausalito lies just over the Golden Gate Bridge [1] from San Francisco [2] and is easily accessible on side roads on a bicycle or on U.S. 101 in a car. Once you’re in town, navigating in a car can be a challenge, as the narrow oceanfront main road gets super-crowded on weekends. If you can, park your car and walk around town, both for your own comfort and to do your part to minimize traffic congestion. Street parking is mostly by meter.
Tiburon lies a few exits farther up U.S. 101. It’s a bit easier to drive around and find parking here. To park your car still costs a pretty penny, but it’s worth it to explore Main Street on foot.
