Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum

Perhaps more genuinely creepy than the Winchester Mystery House [1], the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum (1342 Naglee Ave., 408/947-3636, Mon.–Fri. 10 a.m.–5 p.m., Sat.–Sun. 11 a.m.–6 p.m., adults $9, seniors/students $7, children $5) has been a part of San Jose [2] culture for almost a century. First opened by the Rosicrucian Order AMORC in 1928, the museum has a wonderful collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts, including several mummies—partly unwrapped, a rarity today.

Local children and adults love the Rosicrucian’s jewels, tomb artifacts, tools, and textiles. In addition, the complex includes a planetarium (shows Mon.–Fri. 2 p.m., Sat.–Sun. 2 and 3:30 p.m.). Planetarium shows are free with admission to the museum.
