If you love plants and gardening, don’t miss the Luther Burbank Home and Gardens (Sonoma and Santa Rosa Aves., Santa Rosa, 707/524-5445, www.lutherburbank.org [1], gardens 8 a.m.–dusk year-round, tours Apr.–Oct. Tues.–Sun. 10 a.m.–4 p.m., fee). Luther Burbank personally created (using hybridization techniques) some of the most popular plants growing in California gardens and landscapes today.
You don’t have to go to his gardens to see examples of his famous Shasta Daisy—an incredibly hardy pure-white daisy hybrid that now covers vast areas throughout the state. But you will see them in the Luther Burbank gardens within the more than acre’s worth of horticulture ranging from medicinal herbs through showy roses.
Check the website for a list of what’s in bloom during your visit, as something will be showing off its finest flowers every month of the year!
