The reason to haul yourself and your family and your friends and your gear all the way out to Mount Lassen [1] is to get out and experience this amazing scenic wilderness.
Whether you prefer short day hikes [2] or intense backcountry hikes [3], swimming in the little crystalline lakes or fishing [4] for dinner in them, outdoor recreation calls to all Lassen visitors.
Do be aware that the “lower” elevations of Mount Lassen trails sit more than 7,000 feet above sea level. If you’re planning serious hiking, come up a day early and camp [5] on the mountain to acclimate to the elevation. The next day you’ll be better able to take the longer and higher trails without succumbing to altitude sickness.
