If you’re feeling the need for speed, you can get lots of it at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca (1021 Monterey-Salinas Hwy., 831/242-8201, www.laguna-seca.com [1]), one of the country’s premier road-racing venues. Here you can see historic auto races, superbikes, speed festivals, and an array of Grand Prix events. The major racing season runs May–October of most years. In addition to the big events, Laguna Seca hosts innumerable auto clubs and small sports car and stock car races.
If you’ve always wanted to learn to drive or ride racecar-style, check the schedule to see if one of the track classes is happening during your visit. These often happen in the middle of the week, and are a near daily event in the off-season.
Be sure to check the website for parking directions specific to the event you plan to attend—this is a big facility. You can camp here, and certainly you’ll find plenty of concessions during big races.
