Local poet Robinson Jeffers built this rugged-looking castle on the Carmel [1] coast in 1919. He named it Tor House (26304 Ocean View Ave., 831/624-1813, www.torhouse.org [2], tours Fri.–Sat. 10 a.m.–3 p.m., $7), after its rocky setting, and added the majestic Hawk Tower a year later.
The granite stone structure exists today as an example of the Carmel ethos that Jeffers embodied and as a monument to his work and poetry.
