As you traverse the famed Highway 1 through Big Sur [1], you’ll quickly realize that a ready meal isn’t something to take for granted here. You’ll see no McDonald’s, Starbucks, 7-11s, or Safeways lining the road here. While you can find groceries, they tend to appear in small markets [2] attached to motels.
The motels and resorts usually have restaurants attached as well, but they’re all-meals all-day or 24-hour kinds of places. Plan in advance to make it to meals during standard hours, and expect to have dinner fairly early.
Pick up staple supplies before you enter the area if you don’t plan to leave again for a few days to avoid paying premiums at the mini-marts.
