Another gem of Exposition Park, the exhibits at the California Science Center (39th and Figueroa St., 323/724-3623, www.californiasciencecenter.org [1], daily 10 a.m.–5 p.m., admission free, parking $6) focus on the notable achievements and gathered knowledge of humankind. Some of the best traveling scientific exhibits come here.
Permanent exhibits start before you even enter the building with the outdoor Science Plaza. Once inside, you’ll find galleries dedicated to air and space technology, life as we know it, and human creativity.
The central Science Court delights both children and adults with exhibits they can get involved with. Visitors can ride a bike on a three-story-high wire, climb a cliff, or check out a motion-based simulator. The Science Court attractions are not part of the free admission to the center.
Many people come to the California Science Center for the IMAX theater, which is open daily and shows educational films on its tremendous seven-story screen. Adult tickets cost $8, while teens, seniors, and students pay $5.75, and tickets for younger children cost $4.75. Your IMAX tickets also get you onto the ride-able attractions of the Science Court.
