All the locals recommend that tourists try Steve’s Steakhouse (417 Crescent Ave., 310/510-0333, www.stevessteakhouse.com [1], daily lunch 11:30 a.m.–2 p.m., dinner from 5 p.m., $10–33).
It’s possible that the locals are trying to keep the tourists away from their favorite spots by sending them here. Sure, Steve’s offers a wide array of classic steakhouse fare with plenty of seafood options thrown in as a nod to the water lapping the harbor beach just outside.
Generous portions of meat or fish are accompanied by traditional steakhouse sides, and the desserts up the ante with some tasty sweetness. (The mud pie’s not half bad.)
But compared to the lush cuisine you can get on the mainland, the quality of the ingredients and the preparations seem a bit lackluster at Steve’s, and the tourist-high prices can be a bit painful.
