When visiting California, you might be tempted to stop in at one of several Golden State Welcome Centers scattered throughout the state. In all honesty, these visitors centers aren’t that great. If you’re in an area that doesn’t have its own visitors venter or tourist bureau, the State Welcome Center might be a useful place to pick up maps and brochures.
Check www.visitcwc.com [1] to find a local Welcome Center wherever you’re visiting. Otherwise, stick with local, regional, state, and national park visitors centers (see Internet Resources [2]), which tend to be staffed by volunteers or rangers who feel a real passion for their locale.
