Guadalupe and the Railyard District

Guadalupe Street runs south and north from just west of the plaza; its southern stretch developed around the depot for the 18-mile rail spur up from the main line at Lamy [1], but today it is lined with a clutch of cafés and shops that feel quite different from the plaza, as Guadalupe is just outside of the historic center, beyond the reach of the most stringent adobe-look codes.

The area around the railroad tracks, from Sanbusco Center southwest, has been recently redeveloped, with Santa Fe’s newest green space, Railyard Park [2], inaugurated in late 2008. On the north end of the park are numerous arts spaces, the city farmers market hall, and the Santa Fe Southern Railway (410 S. Guadalupe St., 505/989-8600, www.sfsr.com [3]) depot—where vintage trains depart to Lamy [1]. This is also the spot where commuter trains from Albuquerque [4] arrive.
