Santa Fe has a number of excellent film outlets in addition to the megaplexes. Closest to the center of town, the New Mexico Film Museum
(418 Montezuma St., 505/476-5760, www.nmfilmmuseum.org [1]) is an archive for the state on and in film, wedged into a charming vintage single-screen theater—screenings are infrequent but often intriguing.

The most solid programming is at the College of Santa Fe’s The Screen (1600 St. Michael’s Dr., 505/473-6494, http://thescreensf.com [2]), where the enthusiastic curator brings in excellent first-run art films along with repertory gems.

For a good social night out, though, The Film Center at Cinemacafe (1616 St. Michael’s Dr., 505/988-7414, www.santafefilmfestival.com [3]) couples coffeehouse casual with obscure celluloid—it’s run by the Santa Fe Film Festival (four days in early December), so the selection, from vintage animation to gay-theme hits, is inspired.

Additionally, the CCA Cinematheque (1050 Old Pecos Tr., 505/982-1338, www.ccasantafe.org [4]) has a film program with an emphasis on international titles, and a first-run multiplex was set to open in the new Railyard Park [5] when we last checked.
