Stefanie Beninato (505/988-8022, www.swguides.com [1]) leads walking tours around central Santa Fe [2] and Canyon Road [3], both for general history and more specialized interests, such as the Jewish-legacy tour or the garden tours; most day trips are $22 per person.
If you want to head out of town, call up Destination 505 (505/424-9500, www.destination505.com [4]), which can organize custom daylong or multiday trips, including studio tours and excellent archaeological outings; one of the owners is a Santa Clara Pueblo member, so she has access and perspectives that a lot of other operators don’t.
The nifty Santa Fe Southern Railway (410 S. Guadalupe St., 505/989-8600, www.sfsr.com [5]) runs vintage train cars from the old depot on South Guadalupe to Lamy [6]. A day train runs year-round, and during the summer, the High-Desert Highball does a 2.5-hour trip starting at sunset, with free snacks and a cash bar. Trips start at $28 per person.
