A series of dams was built along the Colorado River in the late 1930s, resulting in the creation of seven lakes. The three most popular (and most navigable) are Lakes Travis [1], LBJ [2], and Buchanan [3], 20–60 miles northwest of Austin [4].
These clear, clean bodies of water are a welcome respite from Texas’s hot summers, offering an ideal place for residents and visitors to swim, sail, fish, and water ski.
