The acoustics in the elegant Boston Symphony Hall are generally recognized as among the top three in the world (only Vienna and Amsterdam can compare). The home of both the Boston Symphony Orchestra [1] and the Boston Pops [1], the Boston Symphony Hall (301 Massachusetts Ave., 617/638-9390, www.bostonsymphonyhall.org [2]) was built in 1900 with a minimum of ornamentation.
For many Bostonians, it’s an annual holiday rite to see a performance of Handel’s Messiah utilizing the impressive Aeolian Skinner organ behind the stage.
Free tours of the Boston Symphony Hall, which include an explanation of its legendary acoustics, are offered every Wednesday at 4 p.m. and the second Saturday of the month at 2 p.m., from October to early December and early January to mid-June.
