To pair with the suds is a creative menu of burgers, sandwiches, and bar food. Specials include New York strip streak or a full rack of ribs.

Named after the Italian word for “witch,” Strega (94 Lafayette St., 978/741-0004, www.stregasalem.com [2], 5 p.m.–10 p.m., Tues.–Sat.; closed Sun. and Mon., $17–20) goes beyond pasta to serve Italian-influenced meat and fish dishes. Befitting the name, the dining room is decked out in over-the-top plush red fabrics and swooping blood-red curtains.
