One of UConn’s quirkier attractions is the Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry (Weaver Rd. off Rte. 44, Storrs, 860/486-0339, www.sp.uconn.edu [1], noon–5 p.m. Fri.–Sun. May–Nov., $5 adults, $4 children, students and seniors), a museum that began two decades ago as a gallery displaying the unique puppets created by UConn theater professor Jack Ballard. Over the years, the collection has expanded into a tour through the international history of puppetry, including shadow puppets, hand puppets, and celebrity marionettes (including a credible Elvis).
