More than for any official attractions, Greenwich is famous for its wealth. Here, Manhattan finance wizards and other high-earning professionals build McMansions galore in the leafy streets and raise children, many of whom attend the area’s bountiful private prep schools (of which there are nearly as many as public schools).
All which leaves the question: What is there to actually do in Greenwich? Shop [1], for starters. In an area with this much surplus cash hanging around, it’s no shock that the stores would rise to the occasion. Likewise, the high-end restaurants [2], of which there are many. Mostly, however, visitors come to admire the picture-perfect downtown area, gawk at the homes, and engage in some good old-fashioned American envy.
