The best of Wilmington [1]’s galleries is the Young & Constantin Gallery (10 S. Main St., Wilmington, 802/464-2515, www.ycgallery.com [2], noon–5:30 p.m., Fri–Sat., 2–5 p.m., Mon.-Thu.), a sun-splashed former church building filled with the elegant colored glass vases and molten glass sculptures of artist Kathleen Young.
Its most unique, however, has to be the Art of Humor Gallery (30 Not A Road, Wilmington, 802/464-5523, www.theartofhumor.com [3], 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Sat.–Sun.; or by appointment), located on a back, back road in Wilmington. The gallery showcases the outlandish dogs, cats, cows, and plumber’s cracks of pop cartoonist Skip Morrow.
Tucked into the hills along Route 100 north of West Dover are a number of artist studios. One of the most unique is Hot Glass Works (23 Goldman Ln., Jamaica, 802/874-4436, www.hotglassworks.net [4], 10 a.m.–5 p.m. daily): All items in this studio showroom are stamped “HOT”—meaning “Hank or Toby,” the quirky husband-and-wife team who pour their creative spirits into colored glass coins, bowls, hummingbird feeders, and a whatever else strikes their fancy.
For the purist, Hundredth Monkey Holistic Store (17 W. Main St., Wilmington, 802/464-4640, 9 a.m.–6 p.m. daily) carries not only organic foods, herbs, and astrology books, but that most quintessential of Vermont foodstuffs: organic maple syrup.
