Canoes and kayaks can be rented from the Vermont Canoe Touring Center (451 Putney Rd., 802/257-5008, $10/hour), located at the intersection of the Connecticut and West Rivers. Both rivers are peaceful paddles, though the West River can also offer class II and III whitewater after snowmelt.
