The Hazen’s Notch Association (Montgomery Center, 802/326-4799, www.hazensnotch.org [1]) maintains 15 miles of hiking trails in forested conservation land. High Ponds Farm is a restored organic farm at the base of Burnt Mountain with walking trails among the orchards and woodland speckled with beaver ponds.

More rigorous trails lead up to the summit of Burnt Mountain, a 3,100-foot peak with views of the notch below.

All of these trails leave from the High Ponds Farm parking area, some two miles east of Montgomery Center. Directions and a trail map are available on the association’s website.
