Given the low price tag, you wouldn’t expect to see so many amenities at Town and Country Motor Inn (Rte. 2, Shelburne, 800/325-4386, www.townandcountryinn.com [1], $80–105), but they’re here: an indoor pool, steam room and hot tub, and complimentary wireless Internet. If you need something to do after dinner in the on-site restaurant (which, incidentally, serves basic fare such as pork chops, baked chicken, and pastas), the motel hosts DJs and rock bands on weekends.
All rooms at the Moose Brook Motel (65 Lancaster Rd., Gorham, 603/466-5400, www.moosebrookmotel.com [2], $50–90) are well kept and have private baths, phones, and color TVs with cable. The motel also has an outdoor pool. Other than that, what you see is what you get.
Plunk in the middle of the no-man’s-land of the North Woods, 
The Balsams (Dixville Notch, 800/255-0600, www.thebalsams.com [3], $210–290) is an enclave of comfort and luxury. The all-inclusive, elaborate edifice of just over 200 rooms overlooks Lake Gloriette and includes golfing, tennis, live entertainment, and ski trails on its property.
