First settled by Colonists in 1624, York chugged along as a modest seaside town until the 19th century, when it earned a reputation as a posh coastal vacation spot. It isn’t far from that today, with its pretty (though relatively modest, compared with some in nearby Kennebunkport [1]) beach homes and sloop-filled harbors.
The entire town of York is made up of four small sections: York Village (where you’ll find a cluster of beautifully restored homes), York Harbor, Cape Neddick (a residential suburb home to the well-known lighthouse of its namesake), and York Beach.
