Otherwise known locally as Nubble Light, the stark-white Cape Neddick Light (Nubble Rd., Rte. 1A, off of Short Sand Beach, York Beach, 207/363-1040, http://lighthouse.cc/capeneddick [1]) and rocky grounds are so perfect-looking, they seem straight out a calendar. But it’s the view it has as well as the one it creates that makes Nubble worth a visit—the breezy point looks out to mile upon mile of unfettered ocean. The lighthouse itself is on small rocky island some dozen yards off the coast-tantalizingly close, yet off-limits to the public. Viewers congregate on the grounds of Sohier Park (Nubble Rd., York) instead, snacking on ice cream, scrambling over the rocks, or just gazing past the lighthouse to the horizon.
