The oldest house on the Midcoast [1], the Old Conway Homestead (Rte. 1, Camden, 207/236-2257, www.crmuseum.org [2], 11 a.m.–3 p.m. Tue.–Fri. July–Aug., $1.50) is an excellent example of an 18th-century Cape Cod [3]–style home. Over the years, the local historical association has added to the site with a blacksmith shop, maple sap house, and interpretive center that details early Maine [4] history. The homestead is located on Route 1, two-thirds of a mile south of Camden Village.
Featuring Maine’s best artists, the Center for Maine Contemporary Art (162 Russell Ave., Rockport, 207/236-2875, www.artsmaine.org [5], 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Tue.–Sat., 1–5 p.m. Sun. late May–Oct.; closed Tue.–Wed. in winter, $5 adults, free children) is always worth a look for its dozens of summer art shows held in a converted firehouse.
