Chocoholics nationwide rave about Bayside Chocolate (37 Water St., Lubec, 888/816-8880 or 207/733-8880, 8:30 a.m.–6 p.m. Mon.–Sat. May–Oct.; 8:30 a.m.–4 p.m. Mon.–Sat. Nov.–Apr.), a small local business that rivals (and some say surpasses) Godiva.
Bold Coast Smokehouse (224 County Rd., Lubec, 207/733-8912, www.boldcoastsmokehouse.com , 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m. Mon.–Sat. year-round, 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m. Sun. Jun.–Sept.) carries on the region’s smoked-fish tradition with “wicked good” smoked salmon made into lox, gravlax, and kabobs.
The fishing village of Eastport is rapidly being transformed into an artists community. Among its many galleries, The Eastport Gallery (74 Water St., Eastport, 207/853-4166, www.eastportgallery.com , hours vary) offers one-stop shopping for local work.
