From Lipan Point, you can see Unkar Delta, a sinuous curve along the Colorado River, where some of the canyon’s Ancestral Puebloans had winter homes. In broad Unkar Valley, the colorful tilted layers of the Grand Canyon Supergroup have eroded into soft hills and folds.
Above the valley is the North Rim’s Cape Royal [1], surrounded by majestic temples and buttes. To the east are the Palisades of the Desert, marking the end of Marble Canyon [2] and the river’s turn westward toward the Inner Gorge [3].
The Tanner Trail [4] leads east of Lipan Point to the river, a 10-mile journey that was once part of a trail used by horse thieves to move stolen stock from Arizona to Utah.
