Hunters and other wildlife enthusiasts will want to stop by the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (5705 Grant Creek, 406/523-4500, www.rmef.org [1], 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Mon.–Fri., 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Sat.). The large display area has a mix of wildlife art and mounted animals, including some truly impressive elk.
There’s also a theater with wildlife films, a gift shop, and a nature trail. The elk foundation is a nonprofit organization, mostly composed of hunters concerned with wildlife habitat conservation. Along with their conservation work, they are strong proponents of responsible hunting and publish a good free brochure of tips for hunters.
