There’s plenty of public shoreline, and several parks make appealing sitting, swimming, fishing, or boat-launching spots: Boettcher Park is toward the eastern edge of town, Sacajawea Park is right downtown off Kootenai Avenue, and Riverside Park is on the east end of the bridge over the river.
