Logan Pass to St. Mary

From the Highline Trail [1] at Logan Pass [2] to Two Dog Flats around St. Mary Lake [3], the scenery on the east face of Glacier National Park [4] is just as spectacular as, and more exposed than, that on the west side of the Continental Divide. Geology is suddenly lucid as red Grinnell rocks and the green rocks of the Appekunny Formation glow in the morning light bouncing off St. Mary Lake.

East of the pass, drying winds blow across stands of aspen and cottonwoods to the plains, which suddenly replace the mountains a few miles east of St. Mary.
